One such solution is the NaDia protective coating.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The machining of solid wood is currently mainly conducted with carbide-tipped tools for hardwood or with high-speed steel with different tungsten content for softwood. Tools of this type have a shorter tool life compared to polycrystalline diamond (PCD), which for several reasons cannot be used in this type of machining. The coating of such tools is carried out using the DLC method. The process involves a thorough, step-by-step cleaning of the surface, followed by vacuum application of successive layers containing diamond particles. The main advantage of the NaDia coating is that it significantly extends the life of tools with HM and HSS blades. The diamond layer on the blades reduces the coefficient of friction to 0.003, which reduces material adhesion to the tool and significantly facilitates chip removal. These processes, in turn, have a significant effect on reducing heat build-up in the tool, resulting in extended tool life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thickness of the diamond coating is less than 1 micron, which does not dull the edge of the blade.
